Position Title: Friendship Court Room Service Attendant
Department: Nursing
Supervisor: RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Care Attendant supports residents living at Friendship Court with daily living activities and helps maintain their personal environment in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
This position is a universal worker, assisting residents with tasks of daily living as indicated on the Service Agreement and other services as delegated by the RN CNC.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in working with older adults preferred
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
This position requires the incumbent to:
- Possess a sensitivity and aptitude for working with the elderly.
- Prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
- Possess skills to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and other customers.
- Possess ability to use the facility’s electronic health record system for documentation.
- Be punctual with a good attendance record.
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
Perform housekeeping tasks
- Assist with daily delivery of mugs of fresh water and clean towels to residents
- Assist residents with personal laundry duties including clothing and bed linens.
- Assist with bedmaking and changing bed linen.
- Maintain a clean and healthy environment.
- Promote independence, not dependence, with residents offering choices and fostering self-help skills.
- Perform routine procedures as delegated by the RN CNC.
Serve meals
- Able to complete simple food preparation
- Able to use portion control when serving food
- Able to assemble, dish and plate food according to the scheduled menu
- Help to minimize waste and excess food
- Maintain high quality food standards
Practice Safe Food Handling
- Practice strict personal hygiene including proper hand washing techniques
- Utilize gloves when handling cold and ready to eat foods
- Monitor time and temperature of foods
- Hold hot foods at 1400 F or above and cold foods at 410 F or below
- Avoid cross-contamination
- Store and label foods properly
Provide Dining Room Assistance
- Be familiar with weekly menu
- Wash and sanitize tables
- Know basic place settings when setting a table
- Set tables with place settings and condiments
- Replenish condiments as needed
- Prepare beverages and serve per resident request
- Set up bussing station in a convenient, yet out of the way location
- Transport food and supplies to other areas of the building as needed
- Meet time schedule of meal service
- Perform plate service for meal delivery
- Follow service etiquette
- Be sensitive to and meet the needs of the residents, following through with their requests
- Clear tables between courses and at the end of the meal service
Dishwashing
- Operate dishwasher according to directions
- Scrape, rinse, rack, wash, air dry and put dishware and kitchenware away
- Keep an inventory of dishwashing supplies
Clean Dining Area
- Clean and sanitize work areas, including dining room tables
- Recycle cans and plastic in appropriate areas
- Assist with cleaning of dining room and kitchen
- Dispose of trash in proper place
- Clean and maintain dining room appliances and dining room area
Other duties as assigned
- Support the mission and values of Friendship Court.
- Documenting duties completed with residents on the service delivery record during each shift.
Complete essential paperwork
- Reviewing and signing all new residents plan of care/ weekly service record and changes in current residents’ plan of care.
- Reading the communication book.
- Other documentation as assigned and/ or needed.
Knowledge and compliance with state regulations
- Understand and adhere to the Vulnerable Adult and abuse policy, Bill of Rights and HIPPA.
- Works to assure facility is in compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
- Complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of documented training.
- Be up to date with completing Mantoux tests or chest x-rays.
Participate and function effectively as a team member
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with other Friendship Court staff.
- Provide back up to other staff as needed to ensure 24 hours staffing.
- Communicate information regarding resident’s care needs and changes to the team and families.
- Provide proactive and constructive participation in staff meetings.
- Be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.
- Be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
- Responds appropriately to safety hazards, fire, weather, or emergency situations.
- Follow through promptly on requested duties.
